FIBA Ranking System
FIBA has created a Ranking
for National Teams. You will find below all the
necessary information on how the FIBA Ranking
is calculated.
Please note that the FIBA Ranking will never be
used for any sports related decision such as a
seeding for draws, for wild cards at FIBA invitational
or official competition and similar decisions.
FIBA also reserves the right to change the ranking
calculation system at any time without previous
notification.
*FIBA
is using the country name "Yugoslavia" for historical
reasons. During the cycle we use to calculate
the FIBA ranking, it wasYugoslavia that participated
in the FIBA competitions.

3. Cycle
The ranking is calculated within the scope of a 2 Olympic Games cycle. Here are the number of competitions that are taken into account:
2 FIBA World Championships
2 Olympic Basketball Tournaments
2 FIBA U19 World Championships
2 FIBA U21 World Championships
5 FIBA Africa Championships
5 FIBA Americas Championships
5 FIBA Asia Championships
5 Eurobasket Championships
5 FIBA Oceania Championships
Whenever a new championship is played the oldest championship of that category drops out. The FIBA Ranking is then recalculated.
